Empowering Athletes to Excel Beyond Limits

The Follow Through is a dynamic sports consultant, development, and media training mentorship platform dedicated to helping athletes gain clarity, confidence, and control throughout their journeys—both on the court and off.

Founded by a committed former junior college athlete, an enthusiastic educator, an experienced media practictioner, and a father of a Division I commitment, who navigated life's challenges while pursuing dreams in sports and a professional career. The Follow Through was created with deep understanding of the commitment necessary to thrive at every competitive level.

From outstanding middle school talents to ambitious college athletes, we empower sports competitors at every stage of their development—leading them to make informed decisions, recognize their true value, and present themselves intentionally in the ever-evolving world of sports culture.

Mission statement
At The Follow Through, we hold the belief that true greatness is not achieved at the moment of release—it flourishes in what transpires after. In the realm of sports, mastering proper technique and maintaining a disciplined follow-through can distinguish a missed opportunity from a decisive victory. Life mirrors this principle. Our mission is to empower young athletes by cultivating the mindset, skillset, and discipline required to see their commitments through—both on and off the court. We offer resources and insights to guide you in making choices that will nurture and elevate your career.
Purpose Statement
Our purpose is to guide young athletes in navigating today’s competitive and often confusing sports landscape. From building a personal brand to making key decisions about travel teams, schools, and NIL opportunities—we provide the playbook. Through media training, social media strategy, professional video edits, interviews, financial literacy, and mentoring, we help athletes take the right shots—and follow through until they score.

Maria Antoinette Lackey

Maria Lackey is a licensed associate professional counselor, actively certified in both Georgia and Texas. She holds the firm belief that the mental aspect of athletics frequently remains overlooked, and it deserves equal, if not greater, attention compared to the physical aspect. Hailing from Atlanta, GA, she relocated to Texas in 2013 to pursue her education at Prairie View A&M University, where she competed as a collegiate tennis athlete at the Division 1 level from 2013-2017. Following her graduation, Maria dedicated herself to obtaining a Masters in Clinical Counseling at PVAMU, successfully completing her degree in 2020. She has provided counseling to student athletes across various levels, from youth to collegiate, assisting them in navigating challenges related to academic performance and mental health. Maria is deeply committed to assisting student athletes both on the court and beyond, advocating for the importance of "addressing the whole athlete" on their journey to success.

In addition, Maria currently serves as a mental health clinician at the Georgia Institute of Technology, within the Center for Mental Health Care and Resources. Here, she addresses the clinical and wellbeing needs of the student body.

Finally, Maria enjoys integrating her sports experience, clinical knowledge, and personal faith to empower individuals in their quest to become the best versions of themselves.
